What is Montessori Education?
The Montessori Method is one of the most successful disciplines of learning which carries international recognition. Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that when children learn through experience, it encourages a deeper and more consistent understanding of language, mathematics, science, music, social interactions and much more. Montessori ONE Academy provides an authentic Montessori curriculum referred to as Cosmic Education whereby lessons are designed to arouse interest across multiple disciplines and incorporate multiple subject areas to demonstrate how the world and all subject matter is inter-connected. Students are dynamic participants in their learning journey. Their preferences, ideas, likes, dislikes, strengths, and challenges are all considered and valued as they work with the Guides. Students receive a robust education that is designed to inspire curiosity and creativity, ignite confidence and self-discipline, and provide a strong college-preparatory foundation.

Primary Preschool Distance Learning
The Primary Preschool program serves children ages three through six. Led by our Montessori trained educators, students are guided through curriculum “Works” while learning and practicing Montessori’s Universal Values, Freedom Within Limits, Prepared Environment, and Practical Life. They begin developing focus, motivation, and independence in this stage that will help them become reliable distance learners. By implementing the Prepared Environment at home, Primary Preschool students develop confidence, independence, trust, and a greater appreciation and care for their environment. With the use of specific Montessori materials provided as part of your enrollment, language development and mathematic capabilities bloom during live online lessons and off-line practice time that takes place during regular school hours. It is common to see Primary students spelling, writing in cursive, executing the four main mathematical functions, effectively problem solving, and becoming increasingly enthusiastic about learning. Lower Elementary Distance Learning
The Lower Elementary Program serves children ages six through nine, comparable to traditional grades first through third. Students enrolled in the Lower Elementary Distance Learning Program demonstrate sufficient self-control, focus, motivation, and independence to successfully engage in both independent and group work online. Distance Learning Students engage in live online lessons, as well as, off-line practice work during regular school hours. They enjoy a robust and challenging curriculum referred to Cosmic Education. Students learn at their own pace and move on to the next age grouping when they demonstrate readiness or “mastery”. Students are not compared against one another and thrive in a supportive environment. To find out more about Cosmic Education, please visit our Elementary Curriculum page.

Upper Elementary Distance Learning
Montessori ONE’s Upper Elementary Program serves children ages nine through twelve, comparable to traditional grades third through fifth. Students enrolled in the Upper Elementary Distance Learning Program demonstrate sufficient self-control, focus, motivation, and independence to successfully engage in both independent and group work online. Distance Learning Students engage in live online lessons, as well as, off-line practice work during regular school hours. Upper Elementary students engage in increasingly complex work using Cosmic Education’s integrated subject matter methodology. At this stage, teachers begin to prepare students for middle school, testing, and homework. Upon completion of Montessori ONE’s Upper Elementary Program, students graduate to middle school with a strong College Preparatory foundation.

The Prepared Home Environment
The environment is of the utmost importance in an authentic Montessori education. The learning environment should support the student residing within and meet authentic Montessori Methodology requirements. A “Prepared Home Environment” consists of a quiet, comfortable, designated work space, a computer or tablet with internet connection, Montessori learning materials, and organized storage for those materials. Montessori Methodology relies on hands-on materials to clearly demonstrate abstract concepts in a concrete manner, so children become confident in their understanding of complex subjects. These materials are furnished upon enrollment and should be organized and readily accessible to the student to promote concentration, confidence, and independence. Having a clean, organized work space with convenient material storage is key to the Distance Learning Student’s success.
